September 4, 1988 -  September 18, 2020

David L. Shire, Jr., "D.J.", 32, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away September 18, 2020, due to complications while being hospitalized for Covid-19. He was born September 4, 1988 to David and Merlee (Navarro) Shire. He attended Assumption Catholic School and Bellevue West High School, graduating in 2006. He started his college career at State Fair Community College and earned a scholarship spot on the spirit squad. Later finishing his college cheer career at Iowa Western Community College. D.J. worked in the car sales business and was very successful until his life was cut short.

D.J. is survived by his wife, Mandi; his daughter, Kennedy; mother and father; sister Christina (Mario); in-laws Larry and Jacque James; brothers-in-law Jacob (Dallas); grandmothers Myrna Navarro and Sandy Shire; and many other loving relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandfathers Carlos Navarro and Leland Shire.

D.J. was a self-proclaimed legend and a true lover of life. His first love was Nebraska Husker Football, followed by his wife and daughter (in that order). D.J. had a larger than life personality and a stature to match. He was known all his life as the gentle giant. During his 32 years, he insisted on making friends with anyone with a single common interest and somehow managed to maintain the majority of those relationships. In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports, spending time with friends, and going to brunch. He had a kind heart and a quick wit that will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a Celebration of Life in his honor on September 26, 2020 at the Horseman’s Park Clubhouse from 4:00 - 9:00pm. There will be room to social distance and additional seating outside. Masks are required upon entry.

Memorials to the family.
