Lois A. Matthiessen, 87

Lois was born October 30, 1932 near Jacksonville, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Jacobsen and Anita Woltmann Jacobsen. She was one of three children in the family. They lived near Jacksonville until Lois was twelve when the family moved to the Corley area.

Lois attended country schools - Jackson No. 5 and Fairview No. 5 through the 8th grade. After graduating from Harlan High in 1951, she was employed in Harlan for three years working for an attorney and Wilson Hybrids. While in Harlan, she lived with her grandparents, John and Bertha Jacobsen.

On May 8, 1954, Eugene Matthiessen of Shelby, Iowa and Lois were married at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. They resided in Omaha, Nebraska. She was employed at Mutual of Omaha for forty years and retired in 1995 as an Executive Assistant using her shorthand skills extensively. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, The Ralston NE American Legion Auxiliary #373, Fraternity Order of Eagles #38, Eclectic Book Review Club and Mutual of Omaha Club 25. She enjoyed polka, ballroom and country dancing and was also an avid reader.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Glen Jacobsen.

Surviving are daughter Colleen Matthiessen Riha and son-in-law Steven Riha; sister Elaine (Loren) Schroder of Minden, Iowa: brother-in-law Peter McGinn and sister-in-law Bernitta Sweetman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; special companion Don Goos; plus her beloved cat Kandie; nieces and nephews; and many more relatives and friends.
