Larry  Michael  Holm
May 1, 1943 -  June 10, 2021

Larry Michael Holm, 78

Larry Michael Holm - known as “Mike” to his family and known as “Larry” to Kathy's family, was born on May 1st, 1943, to Lars Yngve Holm and Olga Helen (Hajek) Holm in Corpus Christi, Texas. Since his father was in the Navy, they lived in various places including Hawaii and California where he graduated from high school. When his father retired from the Navy, the family made one last move back to Nebraska where his mother and father had both been raised.

Larry enjoyed playing both baseball and bowling and he met Kathy in a bowling alley after he was introduced to her by one of her girlfriends, Judy Dye. On June 18th, 1971, Larry and Kathy were married in Omaha, Nebraska, and were eight days away from celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary when Larry left us on June 10th. They were planning on a quiet evening celebration with Michael John, Michelle, and Lauren. If you’d ask Larry and Kathy what the key to a long marriage is – the answer is simple – respect and love for each other and having a sense of humor.

Larry also had a hobby or more like an obsession for – HO model trains first introduced to him by his Uncle Joe Hajek. He spent many hours painting and detailing rail cars and engines and was a member of the Greater Omaha Society of Model Engineers along with his son, Michael when the layout was in the basement of the Durham Museum. He also spent many hours in the yard, planting flowers and feeding the birds, or squirrels, or whatever might come to steal his birdseed. His love of animals also extended to feeding stray cats, much to the chagrin of Kathy.

Larry loved to travel. Although he went east a few times, he truly loved traveling in the western part of the country. He especially loved visiting the National Parks and spend many hours driving his family all over the western part of the United States in a motor home.

Larry’s eyes would light up when he saw or just even talked with his granddaughter Lauren. He enjoyed spending time with her and watching her grow into a beautiful, intelligent young lady. And yes, she grew taller than Grandpa Larry.

Larry was a quiet, thoughtful, loving Son – Brother – Husband – Father, and Grandfather with an infectious smile.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lars, and his sister, Mary Ellen Lee. Larry is survived by his mother, Olga, his wife, Kathy, son Michael and his wife, Michelle, and granddaughter Lauren.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on June 30th, 2021, 10:30am at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Papillion and there will be a private interment to follow. If you would like to send a memorial, please send it to the family for future designation.
