Tom C. Moore, 81

Preceded in death by parents, Glenn and Vivian; sister Rita Kurtzuba.

Survived by wife Rosemary; children Molly Moore, Marsha Matthies (Brett), Monica Schneider (Layne), Maureen Hiatt (Brian), Matt Moore (Emily); 12 grandchildren; Mallory, Grant, Ella, Jane, Thomas, Olivia, Vivian, Dean, Jake, Will, Sam, and Eleanor. Sister Joan Miller; brother Steve Moore.

Tom C. Moore was born to Glenn and Vivian Moore on March 29, 1941 at St. Catherine Hospital. He was the proud big brother to Rita, Joan and Steve. They told of many stories that they shared in their South Omaha home at 21st and J. Tom was a two-time All-State Football player and was selected to play in the state's first Nebraska Shrine Bowl as an offensive lineman. Tom was later inducted into the South High Hall of Fame "Packer's Greats" for his athletic success on the football field.

Tom worked at Swift and Company during his early 20s where he reported that he ate a lot of hot dogs and made enough money to put himself through college. He earned his degree in Education from UNO in 1964 and later his Master's in 1967. Tom liked to remind people that he was a real SOB - South Omaha Boy. He loved the South Omaha way of life and said that the people who live here are the best around.

Tom married the love of his life, Rosemary Culver, on August 1, 1964 in Boone, Iowa on what he often cited as one of "the hottest days." His children will tell you that their father was the very best husband to their mother, still writing her love notes at night that were left on the counter for her to find the following morning. He liked to tell everyone who would listen that he intentionally found a nurse to love and marry so that she would take care of him and his children. As many know, it is because of Rosemary's devotion to Tom and her exceptional nursing skills that we were blessed to have Tom with us on this earth for 82 years.

A very important part of Tom's life was the time that he was blessed to spend teaching and coaching at Paul VI High School. As many can attest, he was far more than a teacher and a coach, he was a life mentor, that to this day- more than five decades later- those who were blessed to be his students/athletes, still think the world of him for the contributions he made in their lives.

Tom took pride in many aspects in his life, the most notable are his five children and 12 grandchildren. Tom's children and grandchildren are the true beneficiaries of the most incredible, unbelievably remarkable father/grandfather ever to walk this planet! He IS and will ALWAYS be considered the VERY BEST DAD/GRANDPA anyone could ever have. He loved his children and grandchildren with all of his heart. He enjoyed coaching/going to their games, maintaining his summer pool for their enjoyment and was always generous with his kind words of love and support.

As many of you know, Tom's heart was loyal- it continued to beat for many years despite irregularity and eventually heart failure. Tom was able to live the life he truly loved even with his aches and pains that he rarely complained about. His heart knew and understood of his love for his family and his true and strong desire to stay on this earth, so with the care provided by Rosemary, it remained committed to him, beating despite its fatigue. Years went by and Tom's faithful heart grew more and more tired, especially within the last month. His faithful heart gave us signs that our time together on this earth was going to soon come to an end. We were blessed with an incredible gift of time- time to know that our dad's time was growing short and that he would soon be going to heaven. He was able to celebrate his 82nd birthday surrounded by over 200 of his closet family and friends. His children were able to care for their father in his home, one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives.

Now we commend our father's soul to our heavenly Father and truly look forward to the time when we get to see one another face to face again.
