I am a Veteran. Richard  A.  Riederer, Sr.
September 24, 1943 -  January 10, 2022

Richard A. Riederer, Sr., 78

Richard was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Anthony and Catherine (Gerjevic) Riederer on September 24, 1943. He attended Saints Peter and Paul Catholic school, and Creighton Prep. After high school he attended Creighton University for 2 years before enlisting in the Army. After being honorably discharged he worked at Wilsons and was a part time student at UNO. This is when he met his wife of 51 years, Susan on a blind date New Year’s Eve 1969. They were married 8 months later. At this time Richard stopped working to become a full-time student at UNO where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. After graduating, Richard and Susan moved to Columbus NE for a job as an Industrial Engineer at Behlen Manufacturing. This is where their daughter Tammy was born. In Columbus Richard was involved with Toast Masters International and the Lyons Club. Later they moved to Forest City IA. where Richard worked as an inspector for Winnebago for 2 yrs. This is where they had their second daughter Jenny. They moved back to Omaha in 1977. Richard worked for UP Railroad and the Corp of Engineers. Their third child Rick was born. In 1988 Richard started work at Offutt AFB as a Facilities Manager for Global Weather. He worked here until he retired in 2017.

Richard’s love for God and his Catholic faith were the most important to him. He had such a great love for family, and it was important to him to keep family traditions going. He especially loved his grandchildren. You just knew by the way he would light up every time he was around them. He was active in the Boy Scouts with his son Rick. Service to others was also very important to Richard. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Saints Peter and Paul and served as their president for many years. He also volunteered to serve at parish festivals and dinners. Richard was also very active with AA as a sponsor and leading meetings. His sobriety was so important to him. He was getting ready to celebrate 40 years of sobriety this February!

Richard enjoyed traveling and time with his family. He enjoyed trips with Susan to places like Jamaica, Hawaii, Ireland, and Egypt. His final trip was to Disney World with his wife, children, and grandchildren. You can just see in the pictures how happy he was to be there with his family all together.

He is survived by his wife Susan; three children: daughters, Tammy Riederer and Jennifer (Bradley) Schavee; son Rick (Sarah) Riederer; two grandchildren: Reid Schavee and Aurora Riederer; brother: Larry Riederer and sister: Mary Kay Schroeder and several nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony, and Catherine Riederer.
